Golf League Rules – 2025 Season

1. Tee Selection & Play Times

  • Players may declare for the season and play from the blue, white, or gold tees during regular play.
  • Tee times: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.

2. Attendance & Notification

  • If you cannot attend, you must inform either:
    • Your teammate or
    • Red Tail’s front desk by 4:00 PM.
  • Failure to notify results in a -10 point penalty applied to your team’s total score.

3. Winter Rules

  • You may roll your ball in the fairway and second cut.
  • No rolling the ball in tall grass.
  • In sand traps, you may rake and place your ball.

4. Tall Grass & Lost Ball Procedure

  • 5-minute limit to search for a lost ball.
  • If unplayable or lost, take a 1-stroke penalty and drop at the point of entry (no closer to the hole).
  • No rolling the ball in tall grass.

5. Maximum Score Per Hole

  • The maximum score per hole is -2 points (see Rule 7).

6. Gimme Putts

  • Determined by the opposing team.
  • Gimme putts cannot exceed the length of a standard putter grip.

7. Scoring System

  • 3 points for a birdie
  • 2 points for a par
  • 1 point for a bogey
  • 0 points for a double bogey
  • -1 point for a triple bogey
  • -2 points for a quadruple bogey (maximum negative score per hole)

Team Competition:

  • Teams compete based on their combined averages.
  • Winning team for the round earns +10 points.
  • Ties result in +5 points for each team.

8. Weather Policy

  • If the weather horn sounds before the last group finishes, scores for the round may still count at the discretion of the groups that have not completed, provided the all-clear horn sounds with enough remaining daylight to allow all groups to reasonably complete their rounds. If there is not a reasonable amount of daylight remaining, then no scores will count for that round.

9. Handicap Calculation

  • Averages are based on your last 5 scores.

10. Lie Improvement Restrictions

  • No improving your lie, meaning:
    • No moving the ball from rough to fairway.
    • No moving the ball from fairway to fringe.
    • No moving the ball from fringe to green.

11. Provisional Shots

  • To maintain pace of play, hit a provisional shot if you suspect your ball went out of bounds (white stakes).
  • If the original ball is in bounds, pick up the provisional and continue with no penalty.

12. Out of Bounds (No Provisional Played)

  • If you did not hit a provisional and your ball is out of bounds:
    • Drop at the approximate point of exit (no closer to the hole).
    • Two-stroke penalty applies.
    • Do not return to the tee to re-hit.
    • Example: If your tee shot went OB and no provisional was played, drop where it exited bounds – you are lying 3, hitting 4.

13. Lost Ball (Not Out of Bounds)

  • If the ball is lost but not out of bounds, the foursome decides on an appropriate drop location.
  • one-stroke penalty applies.

14. End-of-Season Tiebreaker

  • If teams tie in points at the end of the last position night, they may:
    • Play a tiebreaker match anytime before the last scramble (does not count toward league points).
    • Or agree to tie.

15. Substitute Players (New for 2024)

  • A substitute player must be a past member of the league for their scores to count.
  • Inform the league organizer in advance if a substitute is not listed in the averages tab.

16. End-of-Round Responsibilities

  • The last group to finish must bring the book and proximity markers to Pop’s Place immediately after play.
  • If unable to go to Pop’s, make arrangements to ensure delivery.
